The brief
Viento Atelier is a small Madrid womenswear label. Their profile was crowded with image-host tags, lookbook platforms, and English street-style blogs. Almost none of that was a Spanish sentence on a page about clothes a Spanish buyer would read. Category pages for coats and for knitwear were stuck behind marketplaces and behind their own lookbook subdomain, which leaked equity into a gallery.
The founder liked the photographs. Photographs are not a citation strategy. We had to separate brand vanity from the URLs that can rank: a materials story, a coat guide, the knitwear category.
Seasonality is brutal. Five months included the tail of winter and the start of summer. We timed pitches to the desks’ actual features calendar, not to our invoice calendar.
What we did
On-site, the lookbook subdomain stopped being the default destination. Mentions pointed at the Spanish story and category URLs. That single change made the rest of the work coherent.
Publishers: Spanish fashion writing that still has editors, a couple of culture titles that cover clothes as clothes, and one trade piece for retailers. Instagram-adjacent “magazines” with a CMS full of tags were declined even when they offered a slot the same week.
Pitches offered a materials note, a Madrid atelier visit, a care-guide the desk could keep. Anchors were garment language. We refused “comprar abrigos online” as a repeated exact match.
DR/DA/TF were logged for the founder’s peace of mind. The filter that mattered was: is there a byline, an archive, and a sentence.
Sessions across the engagement

What moved
Organic sessions on the story and category URLs rose 49 percent. Lookbook traffic was excluded from that chart so we were not congratulating ourselves for gallery sessions. Rankings on coat and knitwear phrases in Spain improved against marketplaces on a few terms.
Twenty-six in-body editorial placements. Tag links were not added. A conversation about cleaning the historical tag noise stayed a conversation; we do not pretend a disavow file is a strategy.
The founder still likes photographs. They now sit on pages that can rank, with captions that can be cited. That is a different object from a tag soup.
Fashion SERPs in Spain are a pile of marketplaces and a few magazines. A small label’s category page will not steal “abrigos mujer” in five months. It can rank for materials, care, and a more specific garment query, and it can be the URL a magazine cites when it already covers wool. That is the neighbourhood we built. The ranking table is those phrases, not a vanity head term.
We also had to talk about the lookbook subdomain without turning the meeting into a theology of canonical tags. The practical rule was: if a writer would not send a reader into a gallery with no sentence, we would not ask them to. Mentions went to the article. Images lived there. The subdomain can remain a visual archive. It stopped being the thing we asked the graph to understand as the product of the company.
Selected queries
Positions from the market named in the brief. A dash means the URL was not ranking in the top 100 at the start.
| Query | Before | After | Move |
|---|---|---|---|
| abrigos lana mujer | #21 | #9 | +12 |
| punto merino España | #17 | #7 | +10 |
| cuidado prendas lana | #12 | #5 | +7 |
| moda atelier Madrid | #28 | #13 | +15 |
What we declined
- Lookbook and tagging platforms.
- English street-style blogs.
- Same-week paid “feature” slots with no archive.
Autumn lookbook is being built as a Spanish article with images, not as a subdomain. Outreach for that piece waits until it is a page.
Vanity and rankings are allowed to coexist if they live on different URLs. Photographs can be beautiful. They still need a sentence, an indexable URL, and a neighbourhood that looks like fashion writing rather than a tagging machine. The leftover lookbook slice in the mix chart is the old profile. We stopped feeding it. That is the result that will not show up in a single month’s ranking table and still matters more.
Seasonal fashion charts lie if you start in February and end in June without saying so. We said so. Winter coat demand falling is not a failed knitwear URL.
The founder still reviews photographs. They now review the sentence the photograph sits in, which is the only review that matches how a magazine actually works.
