Editorial mentions a YMYL fintech could show a compliance lead

The brief

Ría Ledger moves money for Argentine SMEs. The pages that needed visibility were educational: how transfers work, what fees actually mean, how to read a settlement. Those URLs sit in a YMYL neighbourhood. A compliance lead will open every citation. A network of “write for us” finance blogs is not a profile you can defend in that room.

The inherited backlink file was a mixture of global fintech round-ups in English, a handful of Spain personal-finance blogs, and three Argentine posts that were fine. Search demand is local. Vocabulary is local (voseo in the surrounding content, pesos in the examples). English citations did almost nothing for the Argentine results page.

Legal had already rejected a previous vendor’s content because it over-claimed. Our constraint was explicit: no ranking guarantees, no “best payments app Argentina 2025” headlines, no hiding the commercial relationship when a piece was contributed.

What we did

We mapped publishers who already write about Argentine payments, SME banking, and regulation — newspapers with a business desk, specialist titles, and a small set of practitioner blogs with named authors. The list was short on purpose. Quality control was the product.

Every prospect was read, then scored on language, country, archive, outbound neighbourhood, and the metric trio as a filing aid. Majestic TF was surprisingly useful here: a few high-DR hosts had thin trust because they sold slots. They were dropped.

Pitches offered an expert who could talk about settlement delays without marketing second person. Two contributed articles were written with legal on the draft. Reported quotes were preferred. Guest posts that required a pricing table dressed as journalism were declined in the first week.

The outreach cadence was slower than a typical ecommerce brief. One follow-up, then stop. Silence from a business desk is an answer. We did not move a declined idea to a sister site in the same group and pretend it was a new conversation.

Sessions across the engagement

What moved

Twenty-four placements were accepted after legal review. Sixty-one percent of the original prospect list never received a pitch. That ratio is the point of a YMYL campaign, not a failure of volume.

Organic sessions on the three educational URLs rose 52 percent. Rankings on informational queries in Argentina improved; transactional queries moved less, which matched the pages we had. Referral traffic from the citations was modest and high-intent — people arriving from a fee explainer, not a sidebar.

The compliance lead now has a folder of live URLs they will actually open in a meeting. That is a different object from a PDF of domain ratings.

We kept a running log of prospects that failed the reading: English round-ups, Spain personal-finance posts, and hosts whose outbound links were a strip of other fintechs paying for the same slot. That log was part of the monthly note. It is how you show that “slow” is a filter, not a lack of activity. Procurement asked for volume once. We showed them the declined list instead of inventing a cheaper neighbourhood.

On the pages themselves, we asked Ría Ledger to add one Argentine example to each explainer — pesos, a local bank name used as an illustration, a settlement delay that matched what their customers actually see. Mentions cannot teach the graph that a URL is for Argentina if the page still reads like a translated US help centre. The on-site change was small. It made every citation we did earn point at a page that could keep the reader.

What we declined

  • Global “top fintech blogs” lists.
  • Spain personal-finance posts used as a proxy.
  • Any headline that ranked the product with a year stuffed in.

The next phase is one more educational URL, same market, same legal gate. No attempt to add Mexico “because Spanish.”

YMYL work is judged by what you can show a lawyer, not by how busy the month looked. The declined bar in the placement chart is part of the result. If a future vendor proposes to fill it, Ría Ledger already knows what that neighbourhood looks like — because they were shown the URLs we would not send.
